The effects and symbolism of red are intriguing and paradoxical -just like love. There is a reason the color is used for stop signs and to denote danger; but also used to represent love and passion as well. Throughout numerous ancient traditions of the east, the heart chakra is associated with the color red; drawing an interesting parallel to our western tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day with red hearts. My favorite Valentine’s Day legend is about St Valentine, a bishop who would secretly marry Roman soldiers to the women they loved- even though it was forbidden by the Roman Empire.

St Valentine paid the ultimate price for his belief in love. He was persecuted in the third century. The belief in love can lead you to be bold and daring. I guess we may all feel like love may lead us to dangerous territories at some point; but in my opinion the potential gain is totally worth the risk. To celebrate St. Valentine and the freedom of love we have today, I choose to wear this lustrous, red leather trench coat by Burberry.
